Although Real Madrid have since announced the shock return of Zinedine Zidane, captain Sergio Ramos reportedly threatened to quit the club if they had brought Jose Mourinho back to the club.
Following a tough week and a half, Argentine boss Santiago Solari was sacked and immediately replaced by Zidane, who left Real at the end of last season.
While the return of the Frenchman has been greeted with great cheer, the Daily Mail reported that Ramos was threatening to leave the club if Mourinho was reappointed.
The defender was believed to have had regular disagreements with Mourinho during his previous three-year spell at the club from 2010-2013, and would have rather taken his career elsewhere than work under him again.
A few other players have apparently also voiced their concerns over a possible Mourinho return, including Karim Benzema and Marcelo.
Ramos reportedly had a verbal spat last week with Perez, whom he blamed for the poor season Real are having so far, while it has also been claimed that he got into a training ground altercation with Marcelo on the weekend.
