Los Blancos were heavily linked with Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in this window, but opted against signing the 23-year-old, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the season.
The player responded by signing a new long-term deal with his current club, which has led many to believe that Real will now focus their energy on another goalkeeper.
According to Cadena SER, and as cited by AS, the Spanish giants will once again enter the market for David de Gea, and have already informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, that they will try to buy him after the current campaign.
Real came close to signing the Spaniard in 2015, but the switch, which included Keylor Navas moving the other way, broke down at the last minute.
It has now been suggested that Real would need bid about €100 million to lure the 27-year-old away from Old Trafford.
United could by interested in selling De Gea after 2017/18 if they are unable to get the player to extend his current deal, which is set to expire in June 2019.
