According to Cadena Cope, Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic has asked to leave Los Blancos due to a lack of playing time, but the club has informed him that they will not sell him right now.
It has been suggested that the player is only willing to stay if he is guaranteed game time, but that discussion can only happen once the playmaker has a chance to sit down with new manager Julen Lopetegui.
The former Inter Milan star joined the Spanish giants 2015 for €35 million (R552 million) in 2015, and has gone on to win nine trophies in total, including three UEFA Champions League titles.
Kovacic has been linked with a return to the Serie A side, but is also apparently being closely watched by Juventus, AC Milan and Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
The 24-year-old, who played a total of only 988 minutes in LaLiga last season, has started only 37 league games across three seasons, and just 10 in the most recent campaign.
