With Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric having been linked with a shock move away from Los Blancos, the club has reportedly identified the playmaker they could replace the Croatian with.
Real Madrid Coach Provides Update On Modric's Future
According to Sport, Real are lining up a move for Tottenham Hotspur and Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen in case Modric leaves in this transfer window.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner has reportedly been chased by Inter Milan in recent weeks, and despite Florentino Perez and manager Julen Lopetegui denying he will leave, he is said to be open to an exit from the club.
Several publications have claimed Eriksen could be targeted if Modric does decide to move on as he is a player who has impressed at the highest level in recent seasons.
A possible obstacle in Real's pursuit of the 26-year-old might be Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has a reputation for being difficult to negotiate with.
However, Los Blancos might be willing to spend big money on the playmaker, considering his contributions since his arrival in England five years ago.

Eriksen has scored 56 goals and assisted a further 69 strikes in 226 matches for the club, while he is also a consistent performer at international level.
