Los Blancos announced that Julen Lopetegui will take over from Zinedine Zidane after the World Cup earlier this week. However, in a twist of events, the Spaniard was then sacked by Spain just one day ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Lopetegui has since been unveiled as the new Madrid boss, and will now begin his work and revamp the squad to suit his needs.
Spanish paper AS and Italian publication Il Messaggero have both suggest that the LaLiga giants are now prepared to break the bank for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The 23-year-old Serbian has impressed in Serie A over the past two seasons, and is expected to leave his mark on the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
It has been suggested that Real are ready to pay €150 million (R2.3 billion), plus another €20 million (R310 million) in performance-based bonuses, for the midfielder.
United are reportedly also interested in a move for the Serbian, but the Red Devils are understood to be unwilling to pursue a move with the asking price said to be as high as it is.
It is believed that Real are confident of pricing United out of the race for the player, and Milinkovic-Savic could become the next "Galactico" to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 23-year-old has made 122 appearances for Lazio so far, scoring 24 goals and assisting another 20 strikes.
