Real Madrid's new manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly interested in signing a former FC Barcelona star in this transfer window as he looks to bolster the European champions' squad.
According to Madrid publication Telemadrid, the former Spain manager is set on luring Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Brazilian-born star, who came through the Blaugrana's famous La Masia academy, has also been tipped with a return to the Camp Nou.
The interest in Thiago should not come as a surprise as the player worked closely with Lopetegui when the tactician managed the Spain U21 side, as well as the senior national team until a week ago.
Bundesliga champions Bayern are believed to be open to selling the Spain international in this window, but only if they receive the right offer from an interested suitor.
The Bavarian side is said to be hoping to make on-loan star James Rodriguez's stay in Munich a permanent one, and there is talk that the two clubs may consider using the 27-year-old as a part of any deal that would see Thiago go to Real, the Colombian's parent club.
Thiago made 32 appearances for Bayern last season, scoring seven goals and assisting a further four strikes.
