Los Blancos are reportedly trying to lure Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic to the Santiago Bernabeu, and are believed to have made a bid of €60 million (R962 million) for his services, according to Tuttosport.
However, the Bianconeri have rebuffed the offer and told their counterparts they will need to pay at least €100 million (R1.6 billion) if they want the attacking midfielder.
Pjanic could be considered a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, who is understood to be keen to leave the Madrid club.
Juventus, though, have no real interest in selling the Bosnian, and instead have plans to offer him a new contract worth €6.5 million (R104 million) a season.
It has been claimed that the Italian giants, who recently bought Cristiano Ronaldo for €100 million plus €17 million (R272 million) in add-ons, do not need to sell any more players to balance their books, but an offer of €100 million for Pjanic would be too good to be turned down.
The 28-year-old joined Juventus for just €32 million (R513 million) in 2016, and has made 91 appearances for the club since, scoring 15 goals and assisting another 28 strikes.
