Reports: FC Barcelona Star’s Move To Be Finalised Before World Cup
An FC Barcelona star will reportedly see his transfer to the Premier League finalised before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is working towards signing France international Samuel Umtiti in the coming weeks.
The report suggests the Portuguese tactician is planning another spending spree in the next few months and is apparently looking at bolstering his defence.
French centre-back Umtiti reportedly has a £52 million (R895 million) release clause in his current contract, but with him demanding a pay rise at his Spanish club, Mourinho sees this period as the perfect time to try and lure him to England.
The English media claim the 24-year-old is expected to replace either Chris Smalling or Phil Jones in the Red Devils squad, while Sweden international Victor Lindelof could be sent out on loan.
The Old Trafford side and Umtiti’s representatives are in ongoing talks, and there are rumours that Mourinho would like to get this deal over the line before Umtiti jets off to Russia with his national team.
Since arriving from Lyon, the defender has gone onto make 82 appearances for the 2017/18 LaLiga champions.
