Spanish giants FC Barcelona have been chasing the signature of one of Europe's deadliest forwards for quite some time, and they have now reportedly struck a deal to land the €115 million (R1.6 billion) man.
According to Sport, the Catalan club have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the signing of France international Antoine Griezmann.
It is believed Barca will pay €115 million (R1.6 billion) to secure the signing, which is €15 million (R221 million) more than the 27-year-old's reported release clause at Atletico.
Instead of the club paying his full release clause when it comes into effect in June, Barca are looking to spread the payment out, and to ensure Atletico accept this payment method, the Blaugrana are willing to spend more than what the player is worth.
The Frenchman was expected to join Manchester United before the 2017/18 campaign on got under way, but decided to remain in Spain when Atletico's transfer ban was upheld.
United are said to be back in for the ex-Real Sociedad man, which is why Barca are looking to secure his services as soon as possible.
Griezmann has been in terrific form this season for the Rojiblancos this season, scoring 27 goals and assisting a further 15 strikes in 47 games.
