Following Los Blancos' failed title defence and Karim Benzema's struggles this season, the club were believed to be looking at another striker.

According to Marca, Real had contacted AS Roma star striker Edin Dzeko about a possible move in January.

The same report claims that Zinedine Zidane had the final say on transfers, but he was against the arrival of Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and he did not want to bring in another striker.

Premier League champions Chelsea were also reportedly keen on signing the Bosnian international, but they ended up signing Olivier Giroud.
