FC Barcelona have reportedly identified a new transfer target after their deal for outgoing Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum fell through.
The Dutch midfielder was heavily tipped to reunite with former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman at the Camp Nou following his departure from the Reds as a free agent.
However, new reports emerged this week suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain have hijacked the move after offering the midfielder a bigger salary than the Catalan giants had.
Spanish publication Diario AS has now reported that Barcelona have no plans to raise their offer for Wijnaldum, and are now turning their attention to AS Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Pellegrini is entering the final year of his contract with the Serie A outfit, and it is unclear whether or not he plans to extend his deal with new manager Jose Mourinho coming in next season.
It is further claimed that the Blaugrana could face competition from Liverpool for the player's signature, with Roma willing to accept a bid in the region of €25 million (R412 million) for the midfielder.
Barcelona have already completed deals for Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia on free transfers over the past two weeks.
