Zidane has returned to the club for a second spell after famously lifting nine trophies during his first reign between 2016 and 2018. However, the 46-year-old will have to revamp an ageing squad if he wants to experience similar success going forward.
It is believed Los Blancos president Perez made certain promises to Zidane regarding player arrivals in order to convince the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner to return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Kylian Mbappe is reportedly high on Zidane's wish list. The 20-year-old recently stated that he is not thinking about leaving Paris Saint-Germain despite their elimination from the UEFA Champions League, but that was before the France legend was reappointed.
The new boss was Real's sporting director before he became coach of Real's reserve side, and invited Mbappe and his father to Valdebebas training ground in 2012. Mbappe told France Football a year later that it is his dream to return to Madrid via the front door as a proven star and it seems the move could become reality. Perez has also hinted that having Zidane back at the club could help lure Mbappe – who was a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo growing up – to Madrid.
In addition, the Real president also gave a headline-grabbing answer when asked whether or not he would like to sign Mbappe or Neymar, responding with, "I'd take them both", as quoted by Sky Sports. While it remains questionable whether PSG would indeed sell both of their superstars in the same window, Neymar has been heavily linked with a move Los Blancos, who are reportedly prepared to spend €350 million (R5.6 billion) on the Brazilian. Again, that was before Zidane was reappointed, and rumours suggest that the Frenchman would prefer Mbappe over Neymar.
Eden Hazard's public love affair with Real could also finally become reality, with Belgian news outlet HLN claiming that the Chelsea winger has already officially been contacted by Los Blancos.
Other names on Zidane's reported wish list are Porto right-back Eder Militao as well as Liverpool's Sadio Mane. Spanish publication AS believe Real have already agreed a €50 million (R804 million) deal for Militao, while Mane was wanted by Zidane before he opted to resign ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, and he could now reignite his interest in the Senegal winger.
Meanwhile, several first-team players contracted to Real will be fearing for their futures at the club. James Rodriguez and Mateo Kovacic, who are both out on loan, are reportedly not in Zidane's plans, while Gareth Bale could be sold. The Welshman, who was unhappy with the limited game time he got during the Frenchman's first spell in charge of the side, could be used to bring in more cash for the squad revamp.
Striker Mariano Diaz, who took over Ronaldo's No. 7 shirt, has disappointed this season and could find himself out of the door, while injury-prone defender Jesus Vallejo is also understood to be on the axe list.
