In England, the 32-year-old was believed to be among the highest-paid players in the Premier League, having previously earned about €300 000 (R5.2 million) a week at Arsenal.
Following a fallout with manager Mikel Arteta, which resulted in an exile from first-team responsibilities and an axing from the club captaincy, Aubameyang has sought to get his career back on track with an exciting move to Barcelona, who officially announced his arrival on Wednesday.
The Gabon international's contract in Spain is set expire in 2025, although it includes a break option at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and a buyout cause of €100 million (R1.7 million).
According to The Independent, he will be paid just €120 000 (R2 million) a week for the rest of this campaign by the Blaugrana, which is about €180 000 (R3.1 million) less than what he was earning every seven days with the Gunners.
It has been suggested that Barca could be in a position to increase his wage for the 2022/23 season when more players depart, such as winger Ousmane Dembele, who looks set to leave in July as a free agent.
