Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has shocked the football world by announcing his departure from Real Madrid on the back of becoming the first coach to win three straight UEFA Champions League titles.

The Frenchman joined Los Blancos on 4 January 2016, taking over from Rafael Benitez, and had since surpassed all expectations.

He lifted nine titles during his stint at the club, among them three successuive Champions League trophies. He also leaves the club with an unbeaten record in finals, having won every one of the eight deciders he has contested as Los Blancos boss.

"I've taken the decision to not continue next year as Real Madrid coach," he confirmed at a press conference called by the club.

"It might be a ‘until soon’ as Madrid have given everything to me. I will be here close to this club all my life."

Zidane took charge of 149 games at Madrid, losing just 16 of them. With his nine trophies at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 45-year-old effectively won one trophy every 17 games he was in charge of the club.

He leaves the club as the second most successful manager in its history, with only Miguel Munoz having won more titles at Real (14).

Who do you think should replace Zidane at Real? Have your say in the comments section below.

Thank you Zizou for everything you've done for us since you were a player until now. It's really hard to accept but with your professional attitude I know you will succeed wherever you go. All the best on your next challenge. You'll always be the best player and the best coach I've known.

Zidane doesnt lyk comfort zone, there was nthng left to prove @ real...his next challange is world cup with his national team after stupid Deschamp fails this...he won it as a player he'll take it as a coach...from my point Zidane is nt the best with tactics bt he bonds well with his players which is needed more than good tactics in Europe...the only coach I cn hope to take over in real is taken Klopp no one else

Thats what good managers do,unlike others who will camp @ the same team 4 decades without producing anything. That is why we have been witnessing different types of most dumbest hooligans lately.

The difference and gulf between class and imitation is extremely wide. A Champions League winner can easily quit whereas a serial loser with no hope whatsoever hangs on until stadiums are burnt down! Unbeleivable.

@Myaka weliPhefeni you lying man what issue he had with Ronaldo? Ronaldo has been betrayed by Perez, whom he promise to raise Ronaldo's salary and now is not willing to do dat. Sometimes we shuld not comment using our emotions. Der is kid's reading our comments can u imagine one reading ur blatant lies. Zidani was just a humble coach wth gud man management skills. We never had any conflicts btwin him and any player accept James and Bale hu wanted more game time.

I'm on my way out of Madrid as well. If Cr7 leave I too follow him, sometimes abo Ramos got arrogant. Last year wen Ronaldo raised his concern about de quality players allowed to leave he was attacked by all Spainish player's in Madrid. One even said if u keep questioning de departed players he must as well go. Honestly it was a harsh statement. If Zidane is out hu shuld I support in dat team? Only a miracle will keep CR7 with abo Ramos dis year.

I wish Kompela saw how it's done? So many titles in a short period of time.
