The Catalan giants announced the signing of Senegal right-back Moussa Wague on Friday. The 19-year-old joined the Spanish giants from Belgian side KAS Eupen for €5 million (R77 million), as confirmed by the club.
Wague put pen to paper on a five-year deal, and his contract includes a €100 million (R1.54 billion) release clause. He passed his medical on Friday, and was greeted by Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
He was officially unveiled on Wednesday morning, accompanied by Barcelona's general manager of football, Jose Segura, as well as the club's heads of youth football, Jose Mari Bakero and Guillermo Amor.
Wague has already made 13 appearances for Senegal's senior national team and stole the headlines during the World Cup when he became the youngest African player in history to score at the global showpiece.
Barcelona announced on Friday that Wague will initially be registered with the club's reserve side, with reports suggesting he will train with the first team and is seen as long-term replacement for former Blaugrana stalwart Dani Alves at right-back.
One of the reasons why he could not be registered with the first team is the fact that Barcelona currently have too many non-European players in their squad.
Of Philippe Coutinho, Arthur, Malcom, Arturo Vidal, Yerry Mina and Marlon, only three can be registered with the first team, and while the latter two are expected to leave, Coutinho will reportedly gain Portuguese citizenship and fall out of the non-European quota.
