Since his arrival on the scene as a first-team manager years ago at Porto, Mourinho has proven time and time again that he is one of the modern game’s most prolific coaches.
While he is pragmatic and careful, Mourinho carries an aura that makes players want to run through a wall for him, and that we have seen throughout his career.
The Portuguese boss has also made some decision that many have questioned, especially when it comes to selling high-profile or talented footballers. At Real Madrid, the tactician let go of the promising Fabinho, who had played just once for Los Blancos’ first side.
After a spell at Rio Ave and few seasons at Monaco, the 25-year-old is now recognised as one of the most promising tackling midfielders in England, where he represents UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool.
Mourinho also did not find any place for Casemiro at Los Blancos, sending him out on loan to Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2013. The Brazilian returned to play for the Spanish giants two years later, and similarly to Fabinho, is a holding midfielder who is incredibly important to the team he plays for.
Famously, the manager got rid of both Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne during his second spell at Chelsea. While neither of them were the players they are today then, many Blues fans have criticised for Mourinho for allowing them to leave the Stamford Bridge.
Salah and De Bruyne are widely considered as two of the best players not only in the Premier League, but in world football. Click through the gallery to see some more talented stars Mourinho has gotten rid of over the years.
