Real Madrid missed the chance to close in on the LaLiga leaders after drawing 1-1 at Villarreal on Saturday evening.
Dani Carvajal found Mariano Diaz at the back post with a beautiful cross and the striker headed it into the back of the net from the edge of the six-yard box.
Villareal started trying to come back in to the game and in the 19th minute, Dani Parejo had a free header inside the penalty area, after a cross in from the right wing, but the ball flew over the Madrid crossbar and didn't trouble Courtois.
Five minutes later, Alfonso Pedraza did really well down the left wing to beat Carvajal and whipped a cross into the penalty area that was met by the head of Manu Trigueros. However, his effort was blocked by Ferland Mendy and went out for a corner.
In the 32nd minute, Carvajal had an excellent opportunity to double the lead for his side. The right-back raced forward, comfortably staying onside as he sneaked in-behind the Villarreal defence and only had Asenjo to beat from a tight angle, however could only hit the side netting.
Lucas Vasquez had the next chance, after Mariano raced in behind and pulled it back to Lucas on the edge of the penalty area, who had plenty of time and space to pick his spot, but ended up curling it high over the Villarreal crossbar.
On the half-hour mark, the visitors tried to play it out from the back, but lost possession in their own final third and Trigueros passed the ball through to Gerard Moreno in-behind, who tried to find the bottom left-hand corner of the net, but d it just wide of the post
El Submarino Amarillo won a penalty in the 76th minute when Thibault Courtois brought down Samuel Chukwueze and Morena stepped up to convert the spot-kick - although Courtois did get a hand to the ball on its way in to claim a share of the spoils.
