Real Close In On LaLiga Leaders

LaLiga

Result: Real Madrid 2-0 Valencia

Date: 1 December 2018

Venue: Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid moved to within three points of the LaLiga leaders after defeating Valencia 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.

The European champions were desperate for three points after a shock 3-0 loss to Eibar last weekend.

Isco was once again left on the bench along with Marcos Asensio and Vinicius Junior, while Thibaut Courtois kept his spot between the sticks.

Los Blancos broke the deadlock after eight minutes when Daniel Waas deflected Dani Carvajal's cross into his own net.

Santiago Solari's men were in control from then on, but they struggled to add to their tally after Neto pulled off a couple fine saves before the 30-minute mark.

Valencia, meanwhile, struggled to bypass the Los Blancos defence which restricted them to strikes from distance, none of which were threatening  Thibuat Courtois.

That was the trend for the rest of the half as the home side took a slender lead into the break.

The visitors looked more livelier in the second half, with Dani Parejo and Carlos Soler causing a number of problems in the final third.

Gareth Bale failed to score in his last 10 appearances and that trend was going to continue after he was hauled off for Asensio on 65 minutes.

Michy Batshuayi - on loan from Chelsea - nearly brought Valencia level in the 78th minute but Courtois produced a superb save to deny Belgian compatriot.

However, Los Blancos sealed the win in the 83rd minute as Lucas Vazquez slotted home from close range after a swift counter attack.
