Result: Real Madrid 1-1 Real Sociedad
Date: 01 March 2021
Venue: Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano
Real Madrid missed the chance to reclaim second spot in LaLiga after playing to a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad on Monday night.
Karim Benzema was not included in the squad as Mariano Diaz came into the attack as the only change from the win over Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League.
The game's first opening fell to the hosts on 15 minutes when Lucas Vazquez did well to pick out Isco in the box, but the Spaniard's header sailed straight into the arms of Alex Remiro.
When the hosts did manage to beat Remiro, the woodwork came to Sociedad's rescue after Mariano powered above his marked to unleash a header that crashed against the crossbar on 23 minutes.
Unfortunately for Sociedad, it was one-way traffic in the first half but they had Remiro to thank for keeping the score goalless after his impressive to deny Toni Kroos 10 minutes before the break.
That all changed for the visitors in the second half when Portu opened the scoring on 55 minutes with a towering from Nacho Monreal's cross at the far post.
Zinedine Zidane responded with a triple change as Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Hugo Duro replaced Isco, Marco Asensio and Mariano just after the hour mark.
Despite the host of changes by Los Blancos, Sociedad looked the livelier side going forward as they nearly bagged a second with 12 minutes left after Mikel Oyarzabal's cross found Robin Le Normand, who headed over Thibaut Courtois' crossbar.
However, one of Zidane's substitutes did rescue a point as Vinicius turned home Vazquez's low cross for his third league goal of the season, although it's still two points dropped for the defending league champions.
