For the second time this week, FC Barcelona left the Santiago Bernabeu victorious after they defeated Real Madrid 1-0 to extend their lead at the top of LaLiga.
Gareth Bale returned to the Los Blancos line-up, although Marcelo and Marco Ansensio missed out on a starting berth once again.
After a somewhat lively start, the Catalan giants went close to breaking the deadlock as Luis Suarez forced Thibaut Courtois into a superb save after 16 minutes.
The deadlock was eventually broken 10 minutes later as Ivan Rakitic played a neat one-two with Sergi Roberto before clipping the ball over the on-rushing
While Los Blancos were finding it tough to carve out chances, the visitors went in search of more goals as Messi and Suarez went close after 37 minutes.
The host did go close to restoring parity on the stroke of halftime as Luka Modric sent a header over the crossbar from close range.
Los Blancos came out firing in the second half as Vinicius Junior saw a lot of the ball down the left flank, although he was unable to bypass the Barca defence.
With the hosts pushing for an equaliser, Santiago Solari opted for a couple changes after the hour mark as Toni Kroos and Bale made way for Federico Valverde and Asensio.
Los Blancos threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser as Isco was introduced late in the half with the hope bagging an equaliser.
However, Ernesto Valvderde's men were able to see out the closing stages to claim the win and move 12 points clear of Madrid.
