Barca Back On Track After Villarreal Victory

FC Barcelona got their LaLiga title challenge back on track after they defeated Villarreal 2-0 at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening.
The Catalan giants were desperate for three points after drawing 1-1 with Atletico Madrid last weekend, which saw them relinquish top spot.
Lionel Messi almost opened the scoring for Barça in the eighth minute after finding space just outside the box to curl a low shot into the bottom corner buy Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo produced a good save.
The match was open after 20 minutes, with the Yellow Submarine on a number of occasions coming close to taking a shock lead.
Gerard Pique eventually broke the deadlock for Ernesto Valverde’s charges ten minutes before the break with a powerful header inside the box after a cross from Ousmane Dembele, 1-0.
Moments later, Messi almost doubled Barca’s lead six minutes before halftime after finding space in the of the box but again he was denied by Asenjo.
Shortly after the restart, Arturo Vidal nearly made it 2-0 for Valverde’s troops with a half-volley inside the box after a cross from Messi but Asenjo kept up his heroics with another wonderful save.
Barcelona had a total grip on the game towards the hour-mark as they went in search for a second goal.
Santi Cazorla had a rare chance for Villarreal 20 minutes before time with a curling effort from just outside the box that sailed narrowly over the bar.
The Yellow Submarine were doing well to keep their shape at the back as the game was winding down, but Barça were not giving them chances on the break.
Carles Alena finally made it 2-0 for the Blaugrana three minutes before time with a lobbed finish over Asenjo after a brilliant through ball from Messi.
