La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticised FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique for his celebration against Espanyol on Sunday, and explained that he may be punished for it.
The Spain international put his finger to his lips in a "shushing" gesture aimed at the home crowd after heading in an 82nd minute equaliser against Barca's Catalan rivals, to which the home fans reacted furiously.
Tebas has since revealed that there is a disciplinary committee looking into the matter, and insisted that Pique would face punishment if found guilty of provoking the crowd.
"The committee will rule if the gesture is punishable, but we will take it to them for them to make a decision," Tebas said, as quoted by Sport.
"The regulations make it possible that certain ways of celebrating goals can be considered a provocation.
"We have to highlight the fact Espanyol worked well and until that moment, Pique's goal, there was not a single insult aimed at Pique's family, which is something LaLiga was worried about.
"His provocative gesture made the fans react and come out with intolerable insults."
If the Spanish football federation's disciplinary committee deems the defender's action punishable, Pique could face a suspension of up to three games.
