Joan Gamper Trophy
Result: FC Barcelona 3-0 Boca Juniors
Date: 15 August 2018
Venue: Camp Nou
New signing Malcom and Lionel Messi were on target as FC Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 win over Boca Juniors in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Camp Nou.
Ernesto Valverde named a strong side for the line up and also included new signings Malcom and Arturo Vidal.
Eighteen minutes into the clash, Barca broke the deadlock as Malcom made his way into the box before drilling a low effort into the far corner.
The lead was doubled in the 39th minute as Messi latched onto a loose ball on the edge box before lobbing the goalkeeper from close range.
The Argentine outfit went close to pulling a goal back just before the break, but they had struck the upright before Samuel Umtiti cleared off the line from the rebound.
Malcom nearly bagged his second goal of the game seven minutes into the second half, but his long-range strike was palmed away by Esteban Andrada.
That was to be Malcom's last act in the clash as he, along with Munir and Miranda, made way for Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Ousmane Dembele after the hour mark.
The third goal eventually arrived after 67 minutes as Rafinha played a neat one-two with Suarez before lobbing Andrada.
Thomas Vermaelen nearly registered his name on the score-sheet with eight minutes remaining, but the Barca defender's header was brilliantly saved by the Boca shot-stopper.
That proved to be the final opening of the half as the score remained 3-0 at the final whistle in Catalonia.
