A Real Madrid star admitted that he was close to joining FC Barcelona, following Neymar’s move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
After the loss of the Brazilian, the Blaugrana were looking for a replacement and identified Argentina star Angel di Maria as one their main options.
The 29-year-old admitted that he was close to joining the Spanish giants, but unfortunately, there were a few things out of his control that happened.
"I was very close to joining Barcelona," Di Maria said, as according to Marca.
"Unfortunately, there are things in football that made it impossible."
The former Manchester United winger also spoke of his country’s chances at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
"We reached three finals but did not have luck on our side, not because of a lack of balls," he stated.
"The jokes and the memes sent to players of the national team hurt a lot, but I was helped a lot by a psychologist.
"In the World Cup, we are at the level of Germany and Spain in name but we have to prove it with our play.”
Di Maria made 190 appearances for Real Madrid in his career, scoring 36 goals and assisting in a further 87.
