The Blaugrana confirmed the arrival of emergency signing Martin Braithwaite from Leganes, who joined the club on a four and a half year deal after they activatd his release clause.
Barcelona were allowed to make one emergency signing outside of the window due to their current injury crisis, with Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele both sidelined for long spells.
However, club legend Rivaldo has now slammed his former side for signing the 28-year-old from Leganes.
"Honestly, I neither understand nor agree with (Braithwaite's) signing for several reasons," he told Betfair.
"Firstly, because this signing was made outside the window and, in addition, because Barcelona could have chosen a kid from La Masia instead of (making) this transfer.
"I see no reason to make such an effort to incorporate a forward who, with all due respect, I doubt is the player that Barcelona need now.
"I was thinking of a younger player who could improve more."
Braithwaite, who scored eight goals for Leganes this season, arrived at Camp Nou after Barcelona activated his €20 million (R327 million) release clause.
