With FC Barcelona in a difficult situation and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City banned from the UEFA Champions League for two seasons, it has been claimed the Catalans might want the Spaniard tactician to return to the club.
Despite Quique Setien taking over at the Blaugrana just last month, there still seems to be some doubts as to whether he will stay at the club after this season and see out his two-year deal.
Rivaldo, a club legend, was asked what he believes will happen after this campaign, especially considering Guardiola’s current situation at the Citizens, saying he feels there could be a chance the Spanish giants target the 49-year-old tactician.
"If Barca win the Champions League this season under Quique Setien and produce a decent finish to the campaign in La Liga, there won’t be any reasons for a managerial change," he told Betfair.
"But if the team doesn't fulfil expectations and disappoints their fans, then perhaps there is a real chance of seeing Guardiola back at the club where he was most successful.
"It's still too early to seriously consider that possibility and we must wait until the end of this season.
"Will City's suspension be upheld? Will Barca want to change coach again so soon after Setien took over from Ernesto Valverde?
"We have to wait for a little while to find out the answers to these intriguing questions."
Guardiola, who won 14 trophies from 2008 to 2012 at Barca, has insisted he will stay with City no matters what happens with regards to their Champions League ban.
The Citizens will appeal UEFA’s sanction, with many believing the two-year ban could either be thrown out or reduced.
