FC Barcelona Confirm Talks With Superstar
The president of FC Barcelona has confirmed that the club held talks with one of the most sought after strikers in European football earlier this season.
Last year, it was claimed that Blaugrana chief Josep Maria Bartomeu held transfer talks with Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann over lunch, amid rumours the Frenchman was looking for a move away from the Vicente Calderon.
Bartomeu has now revealed that although he did meet with the French international, it was not over a meal.
"I saw Griezmann last summer," he said, according to Sport.
"We met with him like we meet with other players, but we didn't have lunch together."
The Spanish giants' president believes his latest comments should not start fresh rumours, insisting it is wrong to talk about players at other clubs.
"We have a relationship with his agent like we do with other agents," he added.
"It was last October, we had a meeting, but nothing more. You don't have to start speculation.
"We spoke to (Atletico president Enrique) Cerezo and (chief executive) Gil Marin about many things. We have a good relationship between the two clubs.
"But now is not the time to talk about that. We shouldn't talk about players who are at other clubs."
Griezmann has been in excellent form this season for Atletico, scoring 27 goals and assisting further 14 strikes in 46 games so far.
