Hazard Sends Real To Last 8, Barca Eliminated!

Elche 1-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid progressed to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey with a come-from-behind victory over Elche.

Carlo Ancelotti handed starts to Marcelo, Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Luka Jovic following the Super Cup triumph over the weekend.

These two sides have on seven occasions in the past, with Los Blancos registering six wins and a draw since 2013.

However, Los Blancos struggled to make that previous dominance count in regulation time this time around as the re-shuffled team were held to a scoreless 90 minutes.

The game came alive in extra-time when Real were reduced to ten men after Marcelo shown a straight red card in 102nd minute, before Elche took the lead soon after through Gonzalo Verdu.

However, Isco brought Los Blancos on 108 minutes with his first goal of the campaign before Eden Hazard completed the comeback with the winning goal in the 115th minute.

Athletic Bilbao 3-2 Barcelona

Defending champions FC Barcelona were knocked out of the Copa del Rey after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in extra-time.

Ferran Torres earned another start in the attack alongside Abde Ezzalzouli and Ferran Jutglà, while Ousmane Dembele was left out of the squad completely after being told he can leave.

Bilbao, who recently lost to Real Madrid in the Super Cup final, took the lead as early as the second minute courtesy of a strike from Iker Muniain.

Xavi Hernandez's side managed to get back on level terms in the 20th minute, with Torres opening his account for the club with an impressive finish.

With another game seemingly headed to extra-time, Bilbao grabbed the go-ahead goal with five minutes left on the clock in the second half thanks to Inigo Martinez's effort.

Extra-time was on the cards after Pedri bagged the equaliser in the 93rd minute to keep Barcelona's campaign alive.

However, Bilbao took the lead for the third time in the 106th minute when Muniain bagged his second goal of the game from the penalty spot, which sealed Bilbao's spot in the last eight.
