Date: 06 February 2019
Venue: Camp Nou
It ended all square at the Camp Nou in El Clasico, as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.
Lionel Messi started on the bench for the Catalan giants after picking up a knock in the win over the past weekend, while Real opted to start the young Vinicius Jr.
Los Blancos got off to the perfect start when Karim Benzema directed Vinicius' cross into the path of Lucas Vazquez, who steered the ball home from five-yards out.
Barca carved out their first opening after 20 minutes when Malcom slipped through on goal, but the Brazilian was unable to find a way past Keylor Navas.
The game livened up in the final ten minutes of the first half as the home side went agonisingly close to scoring, with Ivan Rakitic rattling the frame of the goal.
Barca came out firing in the second half and they were rewarded just before the hour mark as Malcom pounced a loose ball in the box before curling one past Navas.
Both sides then opted for changes after 63 minutes as Barca introduced Messi and Arturo Vidal while Gareth Bale and Casemiro entered the field for Los Blancos.
Barca were in control in the second half, but it was Los Blancos who nearly snatched the lead on 81 minutes but Nelson Semedo was on hand to deny Bale with a timely block.
Raphael Varane had a chance to snatch the lead for the visitors with five minutes remaining, but the Frenchman could not steer his header on target as the first leg ended 1-1.
