Copa del Rey
Result: Alcoyano 2-1 Real Madrid
Date: 20 January 2021
Venue: Campo Municipal El Collao
LaLiga giants Real Madrid were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by third-division side Alocyanyo on Wednesday night.
As expected, Real coach Zinedine Zidane made a number of changes as Victor Chust was handed a first-team debut while Andriy Lunin got the nod between the sticks.
Los Blancos dominated from the onset, with Federico Valverde going close to scoring with an effort from distance that was brilliantly kept out by Jose Juan.
Other than Valverde's rasping effort, the LaLiga champions struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances although Alcoyano barley threatened the Real goal.
That was until Eder Militao got the breakthrough for the visitors on the stroke of halftime with a powerful header from Marcelo's cross.
Lucas Vazquez looked to add his name to the scoresheet just before the hour mark, but his powerful effort from distance was turned away by Juan.
Zidane's men were left stunned with 10 minutes left on the clock as Jose Solbes levelled matters for Alcoyano after turning home Ramo Lopez's corner, which ultimately sent the game to extra-time.
The hosts were then reduced to 10 men in the 110th minute when Lopez was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card.
However, Alcoyano managed to get the winning goal five minutes later as Ali Diakite's pass found Juanan, who managed to flick the ball beyond Lunin to eliminate Los Blancos.
