Reports suggest that one of Barcelona's star players has caused shockwaves regarding his latest contract decision.
When Ousmane Dembele signed for Barcelona in 2017, he was deemed the heir to Neymar's throne after the Brazilian had left for Paris Saint-Germain.
However, following his €140 million (R2.3 billion) arrival from Borussia Dortmund, Dembele has perhaps failed to live up to expectations as his Barca career so far has been seriously blighted by injuries.
Since Xavi Hernandez came in as manager in November last year, though, the Frenchman has found a new lease on life and has produced arguably his best football in a Barca shirt over the past six months.
The newfound form comes at an opportune time for the winger, with his current deal at the Blaugrana ending on 30 June.
Due to the club's financial position, they are unable to meet the figure the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and his representatives are said to have demanded.
Dembele has thus been touted to leave the Camp Nou for either Chelsea, PSG or another team, but according to Spanish journalist Santi Oval, the France international is now keen to extend his stay with Barca.
It is claimed that in a recent conversation Dembele had with Xavi, the 25-year-old expressed his desire to stay on, and his Spanish coach urged him to sign the most recent offer given to him by the club.
For as much as the former Stade Rennais man has yet to accept what is being referred to as Barca's "final" offer, it is understood that he has not formally rejected it either.
