An Arsenal outcast has reportedly emerged as a shock target for LaLiga giants FC Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, Shkodran Mustafi has dropped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.
Following the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes in the off-season, Mustafi was linked with a departure from the club but nothing materialised.
However, Spanish publication Diario Sport has now claimed that the Catalan giants could look to sign the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner as a "short-term" option in January.
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman was unable to bolster his defence in the previous transfer window after a failed move for Manchester City's Eric Garcia, who will be a free agent next year.
It is claimed the 28-year-old would provide cover for the likes of Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Ronald Araujo as Samuel Umtiti continues to battle with injuries.
Mustafi has featured only twice in the Premier League so far this season, with his other two appearances coming in the UEFA Europa League.
