Atletico Madrid Boss: If Lionel Messi Was Mine, We Would've Beaten FC Barcelona

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has claimed that if Lionel Messi played for Atletico Madrid, his side would have beaten FC Barcelona on Sunday.

The Argentine netted the 600th goal of his professional career when scored a sensational free-kick in the first half, handing the Blaugrana a 1-0 victory at the Camp Nou.

After the match, Simeone praised the Argentine's quality, and said he was the difference between the two sides on the day.

"Messi is a special player, he made the difference," Simeone said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

"If we take Messi and put him in an Atletico shirt, we win this match 1-0.

"It was an even match. I don't think we lacked application in the first half. However, we did not see our best until the second half."

Barca manager Ernesto Valverde also commented on Messi's brilliance.

"There's no player like Messi in the world," Valverde added.

"I don't know what would have happened if he was playing for Atletico. I don't want to imagine it, either."

'I Knew I Would Play With Messi'

The 30-year-old has made 41 appearances for the Spanish giants so far this season, scoring 32 goals and assisting a further 16 strikes.

Do you think Barcelona would have walked away with all three points without Messi's individual performance? Have your say in the comments section below.

@SL donkey: and where's Mou and Quirez from? I'm asking about coaches who worked with CR7 and still not hiding the fact that Messi is the GOAT. Is there any news when its them who says Messi is no one's match?
