The 34-year-old, who has been included in Spain's 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, received a special farewell following his final appearance for the Catalan giants on Sunday.

Iniesta was heavily linked with a move to China, but Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has now seemingly confirmed that the Blaugrana superstar will move to Japanese J-League side Vissel Kobe, saying he will be unveiled by the club on Thursday.

At Kobe, Iniesta will link up with 2014 FIFA World Cup winner Lukas Podolski, who joined the team in July 2017 and has since scored 10 goals in 30 appearances for the club so far.

The Japanese side's owner, Hiroshi Mikitani, has close links with Barcelona – he is also the CEO of the Blaugrana's main sponsor Rakuten, as ESPN pointed out recently.

It is believed the partnership between the LaLiga champions and Rakuten had a lot to do with Iniesta's reported move to Japan, where he will reportedly earn $30 million (R378 million) annually.

He leaves Barcelona as the most decorated Spanish player in history after lifting 32 trophies with club – the joint-most with Lionel Messi – and another three with Spain at international level.
