The 36-year-old left Barca in 2018 to join Vissel Kobe in Japan. However, he still follows the Spanish top flight, and recently spoke to LaLiga on the anniversary of his 674th and final game.
Regarded as one of the greatest midfielders to have graced the game, he was asked for his current favourite midfielders in LaLiga and named four FC Barcelona stars, as well as Santi Cazorla.
"There are many good midfielders in LaLiga, but for me the best are 'Busi' (Sergio Busquets), (Ivan) Rakitic, the new boys such as Arthur or (Frenkie) De Jong, and I'll also say the legend that is Santi Cazorla," Iniesta told LaLigaTV.
The latter's career has been revived since rejoining Villarreal in 2018, scoring 19 goals and assisting another 18 strikes in 75 appearances.
His career seemed to be over after he contracted an infection following an operation on his Achilles, which "ate" parts of the tendon. It was even feared he would never walk again or lose his leg, but the problem was eventually cured, with skin from his arm being used to replace the damaged area on his foot.
Arsenal, though, thought the Spaniard was past his best and did not extend his contract in 2018. He then returned to his former club Villarreal, where he made his first appearance in 636 days in August 2018, and has since been making headlines with his sublime performances.
As a consequence, the 35-year-old was recalled to the Spanish national team in 2019, and had hopes of making his country's 2020 UEFA European Championship squad before the tournament was postponed.
