The Spaniard made his final cup appearance for the Catalan giants in the Copa del Rey decider on Saturday, according to widespread reports, with it being believed he will announce his departure from the Blaugrana this week, and he turned back time with a fine performance against Sevilla.

Iniesta scored his side's fourth goal in the 5-0 rout of Sevilla, and received a rousing standing ovation when he was substituted off in the 88th minute. He could not hold back the tears as he walked off the pitch, and has since explained his emotional rollercoaster after the game.

"It has been a day full of many emotions," the Barca captain said, as quoted by Marca.

"I am happy to be able to give my club another title. Now we want to win the league championship for us and our people. As a person and as an athlete, the love shown to me by everyone is priceless.

"This week I will announce my decision, I think it is clear, but what we are happy about here is what has happened today. I really wanted today to go well and it did do so, from the first minute.

"It was a great night in all senses, collectively and personal. The team and the fans deserve a 10. There are a lot of emotions and feelings. I am happy for this display and more than anything for the title. Everyone was thinking in Roma but we deserved this."

The Copa del Rey trophy was Iniesta's 31st title with Barcelona – the joint most in the club's history alongside Lionel Messi – and the 34th overall in his career, making him one of the most decorated players ever.

Goodbyes are harder than Hellooo! Time is up for him though, he has done great for Barca and Spain. Even the great Zidane had to retire at some point. So did Ronaldinho. Thank you to him for the great memories over the years. Madridista I remain.

What a player! I really think Iniesta is one of the underrated player ever, the guy deserved 1 or 2 Ballons under his glorious career. I can’t stand to see this living legend wearing different colours.Barcelona really need to make Iniesta stay for the rest of his career.

Would have loved to have you at Barca for another season or two. It would be good for Barca and your understudy. There will never be another Iniesta again.
