7 Players Xavi Could Get Rid Of At Barca

Speaking at his first press conference as head coach of the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou, the 41-year-old issued a strong warning to his players regarding commitment and belief in the system he will introduce to the senior set-up.

According to the club's website, Xavi said: "Now we all we need to do is make sure we are all rowing in the same direction. A lot of the players already know our style, and the rest need to be convinced.

"They need to know that is the way we need to play if we are to be assured success. We have to give everything the fans have done for us back to the fans. But multiplied by ten. That means attitude, effort and sacrifice. These are the values that have characterised this club over the years."

Loosely translated, this is Xavi, a La Masia graduate and former Blaugrana captain, saying the players will need to buy into his ideas and philosophy if they are to stand any chance of becoming successful at Barcelona.

Several stars could therefore find themselves out of the side if performances do not improve, such as defenders Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti, two left-footed French centre-backs who have endured difficult periods at the club in recent times.

The two defenders have been largely inconsistent since their respective arrivals at Barca, and did not appear to be important to previous boss Ronald Koeman's plans in Spain, and, as a result, could struggle to have Xavi see them in a different light.

Certain reports have suggested the Spanish tactician sees no space for striker Luuk de Jong in his side, with the Dutchman on loan at the LaLiga giants from Sevilla after completing a deadline-day move in the most recent transfer window.

Injured Denmark international Martin Braithwaite might find himself in the same boat, as could 33-year-old forward Sergio Aguero, whose health and fitness concerns could see him battle to cement a place in Xavi's team.
