Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has commented on the French Football Federation’s decision to snub Karim Benzema for the 2016 European Championship team.
The Frenchman revealed that Benzema was upset to hear he would not be selected to go to the Euros, saying he still believes the forward will continue doing a great job for Los Blancos.
"I have spoken to him," he said in a press conference ahead of Real’s match at the weekend.
"I'm not going to enter into the Federation's decision to leave him out but he is quite upset by it all - he's sad and annoyed because he wanted to be a part of the team at the tournament.
"He can contribute a lot to the national team because he's a great player. I am completely confident that he will continue doing a good job for us.
"I cannot comment on whether I think it's fair or not, but I will continue to support him and give him confidence."
The decision to leave Benzema out of the national squad was recently made by the French Football Federation after the forward was involved in a blackmailing scandal with French teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
