Zinedine Zidane Beats Pep Guardiola Record
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has beaten a La Liga record belonging to former FC Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.
With Los Blancos' 2-0 win over Espanyol on Sunday night, Zidane achieved his 50th La Liga victory since he took over from Rafael Benitez in 2016.
The Frenchman reached the milestone in just 65 league matches – two games less than it took former Barca manager Guardiola to reach the half century of wins, according to Marca.
The duo are often compared to one another due to the success they brought to the teams they once represented professionally as players, despite having very different managerial styles.
Like Guardiola did at Barca in the 2008/09 campaign, Zidane won the league in his debut campaign at Real, and has already won two UEFA Champions Leagues in two years.
The current Manchester City manager also won the European competition twice with Barca, although it took him four years to achieve that triumph.
Zidane has already won seven trophies since taking charge of Real.
