The latest reports have suggested that Barca might bid £101 million (R1.7 billion) plus £37 million (R627 million) in add-ons for the Liverpool superstar, who, if the bid is accepted, would become La Liga's most expensive player ever as a result.

Gareth Bale's move to Los Blancos from Tottenham Hotspur for £90.9 million (R1.5 billion) is still the league's biggest transfer, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo's £84.6 million (R1.42 billion) transfer fee when he moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Manchester United, and Neymar's £79.38 million (R1.33 billion) switch from Santos to the Blaugrana.

Luis Suarez is the fourth most expensive player to have been brought to the league, with Barca having lured him to Spain from Liverpool for a figure of £73.55 million (R1.24 billion).

James Rodriguez was bought by Los Blancos in 2014 for £67.5 million (R1.14 billion), while Zinedine Zidane was signed by the club he now manages in the 2001/02 season for a fee of £66.15 million (R1.12 billion).

Barca's purchase of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2009 for £62.55 million (R1.06 billion) is at seventh, followed by Kaka, who joined Real in the same year for £58.5 million (R992 million).

Luis Figo's controversial move from Barca to rivals Los Blancos in 2000 for £54 million (R915 million) is at ninth place, followed by Brazil wonderkid Vinicius Junior, who will move to Los Blancos from Flamengo in 2018.
