UEFA Champions League Starting XI: Real Madrid vs APOEL
Cristiano Ronaldo will be keen to end Real Madrid's recent mini-slump in form when he returns to the starting XI against APOEL tonight. Here is how both teams will line up!
UEFA Champions League
Teams: Real Madrid vs APOEL
Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
The Portuguese has missed his side's first three La Liga games due to suspension, but will hope to continue his scoring run in the Champions League – he has netted 10 goals in his past five UCL games.
Los Blancos drew two of their first three Spanish league matches, but Cypriot champions APOEL could be in for a long evening as Zinedine Zidane's men are keen to get their campaign back on track.
The trip to the Santiago Bernabeu will be a tough task for APOEL, with Real having a perfect record against Cypriot sides. The La Liga giants have won all six contests against Cypriot teams, scoring 34 goals and only conceding three times.
In addition, Real have not lost a UCL group stage match at home since 2009, recording 20 wins and only drawing twice since. Overall, Zidane's side have won 31 of their past 36 home games in the competition, losing just once to Schalke in 2014/15.
The two teams met in the 2011/12 quarter-finals, when Real first won the away leg 3-0, before beating APOEL 5-2 in the return fixture at home.
Los Blancos, who will be without the injured Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio, will be keen to extend their impressive scoring record to 72 consecutive games, having last failed to find the back of the net in April 2016.
Here is how both teams will line up:
Real Madrid: Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo; Casemiro; Kovacic, Modric; Isco; Bale, Ronaldo.
APOEL: Waterman; Vouros, Jesús Rueda, Carlao, Roberto Lago; Sallai, Vinicius, Morais, Ebecilio; De Camargo, Aloneftis.
