Atletico Madrid were held to a goalless draw by Sevilla in a Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Sunday night.
Neither side were clinical enough in front of goal to take the full three points and spoils were shared which sees Atletico in third place on the table with 54 points while Sevilla are in fifth place on 46 points.
It was a rather disappointing night for the strikers of both teams with neither side really able to make the right decision in the final third.
The closest we came to a goal in the opening half was when Iborra met a right wing cross from Ever Banega on the half hour mark, but his volley struck the woodwork.
The second half unfolded in a similar fashion with the first real chance of the stanza coming in the 60th minute for Sevilla when Alejandro Arribas met a set-piece from Banega, but his ten-yard header was brilliantly saved by the Atletico keeper.
Atletico nearly stole the victory five minutes from time when Raul Garcio saw the Sevilla keeper of his line and attempted to chip him from distance, but his attempt sailed just over and the match ended 0-0.
In the earlier La Liga games, a brace from Pablo Piatti handed Valencia a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad at the Estadio de Mestalla.
The result sees Valencia up to fourth on the league table with 53 points while Real Sociedad dropped to 12th place with 27 points.
Elsewhere, a goal from Gurpegi handed Athletic Club a 1-0 win over Eibar at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa.
The win sees Athletic Club into the top half of the table in tenth place with 30 points while Eibar dropped to 13th place with 27 points.
