Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale struggled as Atletico Madrid secured a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid thanks to a late strike from Antoine Griezmann.
After a quiet start, Ronaldo nearly handed Real the lead in the 13 minute with a strike from distance, but Jan Oblak produced a superb save to keep out the effort.
Los Blancos continued to threaten and went close in the 27th minute through Karim Benzema, who was eventually denied by Obak from close range.
Keylor Navas was called into the action after 37 minutes, as he produced a fine stop to keep out an effort from Antoine Griezmann, who was quiet in the opening half an hour.
Zinedine Zidane's charges shaded the possession statistic and created more chances, but they went into the break with the score goalless.
Real eventually broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute as un-marked Pepe sent a towering headed into the far corner, following a free-kick from Toni Kroos.
Atletico nearly leveled matters in the 59th minute when Fernando Torres was played through on goal, however Navas produced a superb save to deny the striker.
Zidane opted for a change after 65 minutes, as goalscorer Pepe was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Nacho.
Diego Simone's charges saw a lot of the ball in the closing stages as they pushed for an equalising goal.
Atletico were rewarded in the 85th minute as Griezmann slipped away from his marker before firing into the bottom corner to earn his side a point.
