Madrid were lucky to escape a penalty appeal in the 20th minute after winger Christian Tello was brought down in the box but the referee waved play on.
Nine minutes later, a cross from the wing evaded everyone in the box until Saul came from the back and tapped home to hand Atletico the lead.
Neither team managed to score again as Diego Simeone's men went into the break leading 1-0.
After a quiet start to the half, Tello came close to scoring in the 60th minute but his effort was brilliantly stopped by Oblak to keep the visitors ahead.
Five minutes later, Fabian Ruiz had an attempt at goal which was comfortably saved by Oblak as Betis desperately looked for the equaliser.

With 15 minutes remaining, Simeone introduced Fernando Torres while Betis threw on Julio Garcia.
However, Los Rojiblancos managed to see out the remaining stages with relative ease to claim three points.
