Alvaro Morata netted a brace in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, as Real Madrid defeated Leganes 4-2 on Wednesday evening.
Los Blancos broke the deadlock after 15 minutes as Marcos Asensio embarked on a fine run, before teeing up James Rodriguez for the simple tap-in, 1-0.
The lead was doubled three minutes as Morata registered his name on the score-sheet by heading into the far corner, 2-0.
Morata then grabbed his second and Real's third in the 23rd minute with a sweeping finish from close range, after some good work by Mateo Kovavic.
Leganes pulled a goal back in the 32nd minute as Rico slotted into an empty net, after some poor defending from the visitors.
The host reduced the deficit again two minutes later as Real's inability to deal with a corner allowed Luciano to fire home from close range.
Zinedine Zidane's managed to head into the break with a one-goal advantage, following Leganes' late charge in the first half.
However, Real restored their two goal lead in the 50th as Rodriguez's cross was turned home by Leganes' Mantovani for the own goal.
Los Blancos went through a quiet patch in the second half, where they struggled to carve out any chances for 20 minutes.
Zidane eventually opted for a change in the 72nd minute as Isco replace goalscorer James for the final stages of the second half.
Leganes nearly pulled another goal back in the 81st minute through Luciano, but the forward dragged his effort wide of the upright from inside the box.
Lucas Vazquez had the chance to grab a fifth goal for Real in the 88th minute when the winger was left one-on-one with Iago Herrerín, but the goalkeeper did well to deny the attacker, as the score remained 4-2 at the final whistle.
