Atletico Madrid are still looking for their first win of the season, after playing out a 0-0 draw with Leganes on Saturday evening.
Antoine Griezmann returned to the Los Rojiblancos line-up, while Fernando Torres was left on the bench for the second straight game.
Atletico did most of the attacking in the first half, as Koke looked to get forward at every opportunity, although the hosts were resolute at the back.
Chances were hard to come by, but Diego Simeone's charges nearly went ahead in the 37th minute when Gabi picked out Griezmann, whose volley was denied by a superb save from Serantes.
The sides went into the halftime break with the score level at 0-0.
With Atletico struggling to break down the Leganes defence, Simeone introduced Torres for Kevin Gameiro after 58 minutes.
Atletico nearly broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, but Serantes was on hand to deny Yannick Carrasco from close range.
However, Leganes managed to see off a late surge from Altetico to claim an impressive point, while Simeone's charges remain winless.
Other results:
An own goal from Unai Garcia and a solitary strike from Juanmi handed Real Sociedad a 2-0 win over Osasuna.
While, Valencia's poor start to the season continued, as they lost 1-0 to Eibar on Saturday afternoon.
