Atletico Madrid proved too strong for Las Palmas as they romped to a 5-0 win at the Estadio de Gran Canaria on Saturday evening.
In the second-minute of the match Kevin Gameiro converted a well worked low cross into the penalty area by Saul Niguez from close range, -0.
In the 12th minute Antoine Griezmann came close to extending the lead as he embarked a solo run and tested the goalkeeper Javier Varas, who produced a good save,
Saul Niguez got a goal of his own in the 17th minute as the midfielder headed home Gamiero's cross.
A minute later Gameiro made it 3-0 and scoring his second of the match. The Frenchman was released by Nicolas Gaitan, before slotting into the bottom corner from close range.
The hosts had their first chance of the game after 27 minutes with Dani Castellano forcing Jan Oblak into a brilliant save.
Diego Simeone's carved out a couple more chances in the closing stages of the second half, but the score remained 3-0 at the halftime break.
Las Palmas were reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute as Kevin-Prince Boateng got his second-yellow card of the game and was sent off.
In the 72nd minute, fellow Ghanaian Thomas Partey made it 4-0 with a point-blank range finish, after being teed up by Angel Correa.
Fernando Torres made it 5-0 in stoppage time to put the icing on cake, as he turned home Felipe Luis' cross from the left flank.
