Spanish La Liga
Result: FC Barcelona 4-0 Deportivo La Coruna
Date: 17 December 2017
Venue: Camp Nou
Luis Suarez and Paulinho both bagged braces to lead FC Barcelona to a 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna, while Lionel Messi endured a frustrating evening in front of goal.
Barca should have been ahead after three minutes when Andres Iniesta teed up Messi in the box, but the forward blazed over from close range.
The Catalan giants were in control from the onset, but they were finding it tough to break down stubborn a Deportivo defence.
In the 20th minute, the hosts were dealt a blow when Paco Alcacer was forced off with an injury. He was replaced by Aleix Vidal.
Deportivo goalkeeper Ruben Martinez showed his class after 26 minutes as he produced two fine saves to deny Messi and Vidal in quick succession.
However, Barca were not to be denied two minutes later as Iniesta's superb pass found Messi, who unselfishly teed up Suarez for the simple finish, 1-0.
Five minutes before the break, the lead was doubled as Paulinho slotted into an empty net after Messi's shot had struck the upright.
Barca started second half with real intent and they extended their lead two minutes into the stanza when Suarez netted his second goal by turning home Sergi Roberto's cross, 3-0.
Messi nearly registered his name on the score-sheet in the 66th minute, but the Argentine's curling free-kick crashed against the upright with Ruben well beaten.
Three minutes later, Barca were awarded a penalty when Suarez was brought down in the box. Messi stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Ruben.
It was 4-0 on 75 minutes as Paulinho completed his brace with a close range finish after Jordi Alba's effort hit the post.
Messi's frusration continued with 10 minutes remaining as the forward latched onto a pass from Vidal but he managed fire well wide from 10-yards out, before Suarez rattled the upright a few minutes later.
That proved to be the final piece of action in the half as the Catalan giants ran out 4-0 winners on the night and maintained their unbeaten run this season.
