Alaves Stun Sluggish Barca At The Camp Nou

Spanish La Liga

Result: FC Barcelona 1-2 Deportivo Alaves

Date: 10 September 2016

Venue: Camp Nou

FC Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season, as they lost 2-1 to newly promoted Deportivo Alaves at the Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez dropped to the bench along with Andres Iniesta, while Neymar made his first start of the new season.

Luis Enrique's charges struggled to break down the visitors and only registered their first chance after 34 minutes when Aleix Vidal forced Pacheco into a fine save.

The Camp Nou was stunned into silence five minutes later as Kiko's fine cross found Deyverson, who fired past Jasper Cillesen with an impressive finish.

Barcelona did create a couple openings in the closing stages of the first half, but the likes of Neymar and Ivan Rakitic failed to convert their chances.

The hosts eventually leveled matters a minute after the restart, as Jeremy Mathieu rose well to head past Pacheco, 1-1.

Enrique eventually introduced Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta after the hour-mark, as Barcelona searched for a winning goal.

However, Alaves restored their lead in the 65th minute as Ibai Gomez broke into box before slotting into the bottom corner.

Barcelona pushed for an equalising goal as the half went on and threw everything forward, but were unable to bypass to the visitors' defence.

Alaves managed to hold out until the final whistle was blown, as they claimed an impressive three points against the La Liga champions.
