Spanish La Liga
Result: Espanyol 0-1 Atletico Madrid
Date: 22 April 2017
Venue: RCDE Stadium
Antoine Griezmann scored his 100th La Liga goal as Atletico Madrid recorded a 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday evening.
The hosts had a chance to break the deadlock after just four minutes, but Jurado volleyed over the crossbar from close range.
Diego Simeone's charges were in control for most of the opening stages of the first half, although they were finding it tough to create chances.
The visitors had to wait until the 42nd minute for their first real opening but Fernando Torres sliced his effort horribly wide from close range.
That proved to be the only chances of the half, as the sides went into break level at 0-0.
Simeone opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Torres made way for Ghanian star Thomas Partey.
Atletico eventually broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute as Griezmann fired home from a tight angle to hand his side the lead.
Espanyol nearly hit back two minutes later when Baptistao was left one-on-one with Atletico's Jan Oblak, but the shot-stopper did well to deny the forward.
Both sides did not sit back in the closing stages, but the score remained 1-0 to the visitors at the full-time whistle.
The victory sees Atletico cement third spot for another week in La Liga, while Esapnyol remain in ninth spot.
